27 kg heroin recovered in Amritsar
Chandigarh, September 16, 2026: Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a suspected cross-border smuggling module with the arrest of four people and the recovery of 27 kg heroin, a foreign-made .30 bore PX5 pistol and three cartridges, DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday. The arrested accused have been identified as Vishal Singh alias Shalu, Manpreet Singh alias Sunny and Smartpreet Singh, all residents of Bhalla Colony, Chheharta, Amritsar, and Karan Singh of village Bhusse in Tarn Taran.
Police also seized a black Splendor motorcycle and a grey Honda Activa allegedly used in the smuggling activities.
Drone-dropped consignment intercepted
According to the DGP, preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were operating in coordination with a Dubai-based operative and cross-border smugglers. CI Amritsar received specific information that the accused had allegedly collected a drone-dropped consignment of heroin and arms from the Indo-Pak border area near Attari and were planning to deliver it near Adda Khasa. Police teams intercepted the suspects near the Khasa bus shelter, where the alleged contraband and weapon were recovered during a search.
Encrypted communication under probe
The investigation has also indicated that the accused allegedly used encrypted communication platforms to remain in contact with their handlers. Police are now working to establish the backward and forward linkages of the alleged smuggling network and identify others involved.
A case has been registered as FIR No. 58 dated September 15, 2026, under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
