Amritsar Police Arrest 6, Recover 2.92 Kg Heroin, 8 Pistols
Amritsar: Punjab Police have arrested six accused in Amritsar and recovered around 2.92 kg of heroin and eight pistols during two separate operations against drug and illegal arms smuggling.
The operations were carried out by the State Special Operation Cell (Amritsar) and Counter Intelligence (Amritsar). According to the police, preliminary investigation has indicated that the arrested accused were linked to the cross-border smuggling of narcotics and weapons.
Drone-Based Smuggling Network Under Probe
Police said consignments of weapons and narcotics were being brought into Punjab through drones. The consignments were allegedly meant to be handed over to individuals involved in criminal activities.
The police are questioning the arrested accused to identify other people linked to the network and determine their role in the alleged smuggling operations.
Separate FIRs Registered
Separate FIRs have been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar in connection with the operations.
Investigating agencies are now working to identify those allegedly sending the consignments from across the border, as well as those receiving and distributing them in Punjab.
Investigation Being Expanded
Punjab Police said strict surveillance is being maintained over cross-border smuggling activities involving drugs and illegal weapons.
The police have adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards the trafficking of narcotics and illegal arms. Following the arrests, the investigation is being expanded to trace other members of the network and establish the wider supply chain.
