Chandigarh Farmers’ Protest Today: Traffic Restrictions Announced, Check Routes to Avoid
Chandigarh: Traffic movement in Chandigarh is expected to be affected on Monday as the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Rajewal) has been allowed to hold a protest in the city on July 13. In view of the expected arrival of farmers and their supporters, the Chandigarh Police have announced traffic restrictions on several major roads.
The restrictions will remain in place from 10:30 AM to 3 PM to ensure smooth movement of traffic and maintain law and order during the protest.
Authorities have advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and avoid routes where restrictions will be implemented.
Major Roads Under Traffic Restrictions
According to the traffic advisory, restrictions will be imposed on the following routes:
Sector 51/52 Light Point to ISBT Sector 43 Chowk
Traffic movement will be affected on the stretch connecting the Sector 51/52 Light Point to ISBT Sector 43 Chowk.
South End Chowk to Piccadilly Chowk
Restrictions will also be imposed on the route from:
Sector 34-35/43-44 Junction (South End Chowk)
To Sector 21-22/34-35 Junction (Piccadilly Chowk)
The affected stretch will include the Aroma Light Point on Himalayan Marg.
Dakshin Marg Route
Traffic restrictions will remain in place from Piccadilly Chowk to Sector 20/21-33/34 Junction on Dakshin Marg.
This route includes:
Kisan Bhawan Chowk
Sector 20/30-32/33 Junction
Sector 20 to Mohali Barrier Route
Another affected stretch will be:
Sector 20/21-33/34 Junction
Sector 33/34-44/45 Junction
Sector 44/45-50/51 Junction (Gaushala Chowk)
Mohali Barrier on Sarovar Path
The route will also include:
Sector 20/21 Light Point
Sector 45-46/49-50 Junction
Schools Revise Timings Due to Traffic Restrictions
The traffic restrictions have also affected school schedules in some areas.
St. Stephen’s School has announced an early closure on Monday and will shut at 12 noon due to expected traffic restrictions around the school area.
Officials have advised parents and students to plan their travel accordingly.
Police Advisory for Commuters
The Chandigarh Police have urged residents to avoid restricted routes during the protest hours and use alternative roads wherever possible.
Commuters travelling towards central Chandigarh, Sector 34, Sector 43, Sector 20, Sector 44 and Mohali-side routes are advised to keep extra travel time in hand.
The police said necessary arrangements have been made to manage traffic flow and minimise inconvenience to residents.
