Chandigarh Railway Station to Face 36-Day Construction Block, Trains Affected

Chandigarh Railway Station redevelopment will lead to a 36-day construction block, with 12 trains cancelled and several services shifted to Ambala and Mohali.

Chandigarh Railway Station Redevelopment: 36-Day Block, 12 Trains Cancelled

Chandigarh: Rail passengers are likely to face difficulties in the coming days due to the redevelopment work at Chandigarh Railway Station. The railway has approved a 36-day block for construction-related work, which will be carried out in three phases.

During the construction period, the pillars at the railway station will be strengthened and the roof of the foot overbridge will be constructed. The work is expected to affect several train services operating through Chandigarh.

12 Trains Between Chandigarh and Kalka Cancelled

As part of the construction arrangements, 12 trains operating between Chandigarh and Kalka have been cancelled. In addition, several trains will either be diverted or operated from Ambala and Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) instead of Chandigarh.

According to railway officials, this is the second time within a month that the construction agency has received approval from the Ambala Division for a block. This time, the 36-day block has been divided into three phases to facilitate the construction work.

Construction Work to Begin on September 10

The first phase of the construction work will be carried out from September 10 to September 21. The second phase will continue from September 22 to October 3, while the third and final phase will run from October 4 to October 15.

During the block period, the railway has decided to operate six trains from Ambala and eight trains from Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) railway station. This arrangement is likely to create additional inconvenience for passengers who normally board trains from Chandigarh.

Passengers May Have to Travel to Ambala or Mohali

With several train services being shifted away from Chandigarh, passengers travelling to and from the city may have to make additional arrangements to reach Ambala or Mohali railway stations to board their trains.

The redevelopment work is being carried out in phases so that the construction activities can be completed while managing train operations. Passengers travelling during this period are likely to need to check their train's boarding station and schedule before leaving for the journey.

The changes could particularly affect passengers who depend on Chandigarh Railway Station for regular travel, as they may have to cover additional distance and arrange alternative transport to reach the revised boarding points.
