Chandigarh Sector 17: 29-Year-Old Youth Dies After Gunshot, Police Investigating Circumstances
Chandigarh, August 23: A 29-year-old man died after suffering a gunshot wound in Chandigarh’s Sector 17 late Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as Ajay Gill, a resident of Ludhiana.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are examining whether the incident was accidental or the result of an intentional act.
According to the preliminary information, Gill had come to Chandigarh with three to four friends in a Mahindra electric car bearing registration number PB-22Z-7006. The group had reportedly visited Daflo Club in Sector 26.
Gunshot Fired Near Sector 17 Liquor Outlet
According to the information available, the group was returning from the club at around 9:09 pm when the car stopped on Madhya Marg near a liquor outlet in Sector 17.
During this time, a gunshot was fired from a licensed pistol that was reportedly in Gill’s possession. The bullet passed through his head, leaving him critically injured.
His friends immediately rushed him to GMSH Sector 16 in the same vehicle. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
Police Recover Licensed Pistol
After receiving information about the incident, the SHO of Police Station-17 and the DSP Central reached the spot.
Police examined the scene and recovered the licensed pistol from the car. The vehicle is also being examined as part of the investigation.
The friends who were accompanying Gill at the time of the incident are being questioned to establish the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
Accident or Intentional Act? Investigation Underway
Police have not reached any final conclusion about the circumstances of the death.
Investigators are examining whether the gun went off accidentally or whether it was fired intentionally. The exact circumstances are expected to become clearer after the investigation and forensic examination.
