Kapurthala will conduct a Civil Defence air raid and blackout mock drill on November 27 at 8 pm to test emergency response and disaster preparedness.

A Civil Defence Air Raid/Blackout Mock Exercise will be conducted across identified areas of Kapurthala district on November 27, 2026, at 8 pm as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The exercise is aimed at assessing the preparedness of the Civil Defence machinery and different response agencies to handle emergency situations and improve coordination during a crisis.

Two-minute siren to mark start

The mock drill will begin with a two-minute air raid warning siren. Following the warning, a simulated blackout will be conducted in areas identified by the district administration.

During the blackout exercise, residents in the designated areas will be advised to switch off all non-essential lights. The exercise is intended to assess how effectively emergency protocols can be followed during a simulated crisis.

Essential services will continue to function during the drill.

Fire, rescue and medical response to be tested

The exercise will not be limited to the siren and blackout. Various emergency response activities will also be simulated, including fire-fighting, search and rescue, first aid and medical assistance.

The drill will also assess arrangements for evacuating injured persons, along with traffic and crowd control measures. The exercise will help authorities identify gaps in preparedness and strengthen coordination among agencies involved in emergency response.

‘All Clear’ siren at the end

The mock exercise will conclude with a continuous two-minute high-pitched siren, signalling the “All Clear”.

Authorities have urged residents in the identified areas to cooperate with the exercise and follow instructions issued during the drill.
