Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan to Visit Punjab University Today; Traffic Advisory Issued
Chandigarh, September 4, 2026: Vice President and Punjab University Chancellor C.P. Radhakrishnan will visit Punjab University today, marking his first visit to the university after taking charge as its Chancellor.
Radhakrishnan is expected to reach Chandigarh Airport at around 11 am before proceeding to the university. During the visit, he will inaugurate upgraded research facilities of the Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility/Central Instrumentation Laboratory (SAIF/CIL) and the PU Technology Innovation Facility (PU TIF), formerly BioNEST.
He will also address students, faculty and staff at the university auditorium.
Traffic Restrictions During VIP Movement
Chandigarh Traffic Police has issued an advisory and warned that traffic will be partially diverted and controlled during the VIP movement.
Traffic restrictions are expected between 10:30 am and 11:30 am, and again from 2:45 pm to 3:30 pm.
The main affected routes include:
Dakshin Marg: Airport Light Point to New Labour Chowk.
Sarovar Path: New Labour Chowk to Sector 7/8-18/19 Chowk.
Madhya Marg: Sector 7/8-18/19 Chowk to PGI Chowk.
Vidya Path: PGI Chowk via Sector 24/25 Light Point towards UIET, Sector 25.
Police have advised commuters to avoid these routes where possible and use alternative roads.
PU Gates and Parking Arrangements
For security reasons, Gate No. 2 of Punjab University will remain closed. Invitees, guests and official staff will enter through Gate No. 3, while VVIPs will use Gate No. 1.
Parking for members of the public attending the programme has been arranged opposite the Law Auditorium.
Snipers have also been deployed on high-rise buildings along the VIP route. Police have warned against parking on cycle tracks, pedestrian paths and no-parking zones, with violators liable for action and towing.
The Vice President is expected to leave for the airport at around 3:30 pm after the programme and lunch.
