Haryana Sees Drop in Serious Crimes, Extortion Cases Rise 17%: CM Saini

By NewsWave Desk28 Aug 2026, 01:23 pm119 views

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini presented 10 years of crime data in the Assembly. Murder, dacoity and robbery declined, while extortion cases rose 17%.

CM Saini Presents 10-Year Crime Data, Says Serious Crimes Declined in Haryana

Chandigarh, August 28: Several serious crimes have declined in Haryana over the past decade, although extortion cases have increased this year. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini presented crime figures from 2014 to 2025 in the state Assembly while responding to a discussion on law and order.

According to Saini, 296 extortion cases were reported in Haryana up to July this year, compared with 253 cases during the corresponding period last year. This represents an increase of around 17 per cent in extortion cases.

Foreign Calls Cited as a Major Reason

CM Saini said one of the major reasons behind the rise in extortion cases was the use of calls originating from abroad. He said criminals often use digital applications and other technologies to conceal their identity and location while making such calls.

The Chief Minister was responding to a calling attention motion moved by the INLD over the law-and-order situation in the state.

Serious Crimes Declined Between 2014 and 2025

While presenting a comparison of crime figures from 2014 and 2025, Saini said Haryana had witnessed a significant decline in several serious offences.

According to the figures presented by the Chief Minister:

  • Murder cases declined by 18.17 per cent

  • Dacoity cases declined by 34.30 per cent

  • Rioting cases declined by 29.78 per cent

  • Robbery cases declined by 33.75 per cent

Saini also pointed out that Haryana's population increased by 15.25 per cent during the same period.

Comparison with the Previous Decade

The Chief Minister also referred to crime figures from 2004 to 2014. According to the data cited by him, cases of murder, dacoity, rioting and robbery had increased by 50.88 per cent, 230.76 per cent, 178 per cent and 258.2 per cent, respectively, during that decade.

Saini said the latest figures reflected an improvement in the state's law-and-order situation.

Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Crime: CM

CM Nayab Singh Saini said the BJP government was following a zero-tolerance policy against crime. He said the police had been given the freedom to take swift and effective action against criminals while remaining within the framework of the law.

The Chief Minister said consistent and systematic policing, along with better coordination among agencies, had helped Haryana control serious and violent crimes.
