Counter Intelligence Amritsar has taken major action against a cross-border drug trafficking network, arresting three smugglers and recovering around 17 kg of heroin from their possession. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with drug smugglers based in Pakistan.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said the arrested accused were in contact with smugglers operating across the border and allegedly received heroin consignments through them for further distribution. Police are now searching for other people linked to the network.
The investigation is underway to determine the route through which the heroin consignment reached the accused from Pakistan, who helped deliver it and who was supposed to receive it further. Police are examining both the forward and backward linkages of the network.
A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station. Based on questioning of the arrested accused, police are expected to uncover the role of other people associated with the network.
