New Turn in Amarjit Singh Chawla Rape Case as AAP Releases Alleged Audio Linked to Virsa Singh Valtoha
The rape case registered against former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Amarjit Singh Chawla has taken a new turn after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released an alleged audio recording of a conversation involving Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Virsa Singh Valtoha and the Bahrain-based woman who has accused Chawla of rape.
AAP Punjab General Secretary and media in-charge Baltej Pannu released the recording at a press conference and raised questions about the woman’s prolonged stay at SGPC-managed sarais in Sri Anandpur Sahib.
The FIR, registered at Anandpur Sahib police station on August 21, contains allegations of rape, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation against Chawla. Chawla has denied the allegations and described the case as false and fabricated.
AAP Questions Woman’s Prolonged Stay
Pannu claimed that the alleged audio refers to periods of seven and eight months as well as financial transactions. He questioned why the woman was brought from Bahrain to Punjab and how she was able to stay for such a long period at SGPC-run facilities.
According to the FIR, the woman returned from Bahrain on November 17, 2025, and was provided accommodation at a serai associated with Takht Kesgarh Sahib. The FIR records her stay from February 27 to August 16, 2026.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding her accommodation and the people involved in arranging her stay. Police have also questioned an SGPC driver, who reportedly stated that the woman stayed for around eight months at different sarais near Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. Investigators said the statements were being verified.
Questions Over SGPC Inquiry
Baltej Pannu also questioned the internal inquiry constituted by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami and called for an independent investigation.
On October 1, Dhami asked the Punjab government to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while saying that the SGPC’s internal committee would continue examining the administrative aspects of the matter.
AAP has sought answers from Dhami and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal regarding the woman’s arrival in Punjab, her prolonged stay at SGPC facilities and alleged financial arrangements connected with her stay.
Investigation Continues
Chawla has denied the allegations and resigned from his SGPC and SAD positions. The police investigation remains ongoing.
The authenticity of the alleged audio released by AAP has not been independently established. The recording itself does not prove the allegations connected with the case, and the claims remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
