Fuel prices in Chandigarh have increased sharply over the last 10 days, with petrol and diesel becoming nearly ₹7.5 per litre costlier, adding pressure on common people.

Chandigarh, May 25 — Continuous hikes in petrol and diesel prices have increased the financial burden on people in Chandigarh. Over the last 10 days, fuel prices have risen by nearly ₹7.5 per litre, affecting household budgets and increasing the cost of daily essentials.

In the latest revision, petrol prices increased by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel became costlier by ₹2.71 per litre. After the hike, petrol prices in Chandigarh are close to ₹102 per litre, while diesel is being sold at around ₹95 per litre.

The rising fuel prices are directly impacting transportation costs, leading to higher prices of vegetables, milk, groceries, and other essential items. Middle-class families, farmers, transporters, small businessmen, and salaried employees are among the worst affected.

Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring criticized the Central Government over the continuous increase in fuel prices. He said that despite lower crude oil prices in the international market, petrol and diesel rates are still being raised in the country.

He alleged that the government is increasing prices gradually and putting additional pressure on common people. According to him, every rise in fuel prices affects the overall cost of living and makes it harder for ordinary families to manage expenses.

Residents in Chandigarh have also expressed concern over rising inflation. Many people say their salaries are not increasing, but daily expenses continue to rise, making it difficult to manage household budgets.
