Indian golfer Pranavi Urs created history at the Asian Games by becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win an individual gold medal at the continental sporting event. She also played a key role in India securing a silver medal in the women’s team event.
The 23-year-old golfer from Mysore held her nerve in a dramatic final round to finish at 15-under 265 over four days. Despite a difficult start, she managed to retain a narrow one-stroke lead and complete a memorable victory.
Pranavi faced an early setback when she carded a triple bogey on the third hole, wiping out her three-stroke overnight advantage. However, she responded strongly by producing three birdies during the round. She eventually finished the final round with an even-par 70.
Her consistent performance also proved crucial to India’s team silver. Pranavi was joined by Aditi Ashok, who shot 67 in the final round, and Diksha Dagar, who carded 77.
Pranavi’s individual gold marked India’s first Asian Games golf gold since Shiv Kapur won the men’s individual title in 2002. Her achievement adds another significant chapter to the history of Indian golf at the Asian Games.
