Sensex, Nifty Post Gains in Early Trade
Mumbai, September 4, 2026: Indian equity markets opened higher on Friday, supported by gains in IT stocks and positive signals from the domestic economy.
The Sensex gained 515 points, or 0.68 per cent, to trade at 76,668 in early deals, while the Nifty rose 51 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 23,925.
The broader market also remained positive, with the Nifty Midcap 100 rising 0.03 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 0.49 per cent.
IT, Realty Stocks Lead Sectoral Gains
Sectoral indices traded mixed. Nifty IT was the top gainer, rising 0.65 per cent, followed by realty stocks, which gained 0.50 per cent. Nifty Consumer Durables was the biggest laggard, declining 0.50 per cent.
Market analysts said elevated global bond yields remain a concern for equities. However, strong domestic indicators, including GST collections, automobile sales and credit growth, are supporting investor sentiment.
Global Markets Provide Support
Global cues were largely positive after Wall Street ended higher. The Nasdaq gained 1.4 per cent, the S&P 500 rose 1.06 per cent and the Dow Jones advanced 1.18 per cent.
Asian markets also traded mostly higher. Japan’s Nikkei rose 1.14 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 2.09 per cent, South Korea’s Kospi advanced 1.31 per cent, while Shanghai and Shenzhen gained 0.35 per cent and 0.27 per cent, respectively.
Brent crude remained elevated around $96–97 a barrel, keeping geopolitical developments around the US-Iran conflict in focus.
Nifty, Bank Nifty Levels to Watch
Analysts placed immediate Nifty support at 23,800–23,850, with resistance at 24,050–24,100.
For Bank Nifty, support was seen at 57,000–57,200, while resistance was placed at 57,800–58,000.
On September 3, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers of equities worth ₹2,346 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought equities worth ₹4,977 crore.
