The United States has issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that any future acts of aggression will be met with decisive military force. The warning came hours after American forces launched airstrikes on several Iranian military targets in response to an alleged drone attack on a commercial cargo vessel transiting the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
US Vice President JD Vance, in a post on X, said that Iran had signed a ceasefire agreement with the United States and that Washington had fully honored its commitments under the deal. He emphasized that if Iran had concerns regarding the implementation of the agreement, they should be addressed through diplomatic dialogue rather than military action. Vance warned that any further acts of violence would invite a firm military response from the United States, reiterating that "violence will be met with violence."
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that American aircraft carried out precision strikes targeting Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar installations. According to CENTCOM, the operation was launched after Iran allegedly used a one-way attack drone to strike a commercial cargo ship travelling through the Strait of Hormuz. The US described the incident as a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement and an attack on international commercial shipping.
The cargo vessel was reportedly attacked near the Gulf of Oman while passing through one of the world's most critical maritime trade corridors. Although reports indicated damage to the vessel, the incident has once again raised global concerns over the safety of commercial shipping and the uninterrupted flow of energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. Nearly one-fifth of the world's oil shipments pass through the narrow waterway, making stability in the region vital for global energy markets and international trade.
CENTCOM stated that the retaliatory strikes were aimed solely at military infrastructure linked to the alleged attack and that the operation has concluded. However, it added that US military forces will continue to maintain a strong presence in the region to safeguard freedom of navigation, protect commercial vessels, and ensure that all parties comply with the ceasefire agreement.
The latest exchange has cast fresh uncertainty over the fragile ceasefire reached between Washington and Tehran just days earlier. While both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the agreement, international observers have urged restraint and called for renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation in the already volatile Middle East. The incident also highlights the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, where any disruption can have significant consequences for global shipping, energy supplies, and regional security.
