3.55 crore diyas illuminate Madhya Pradesh

Ujjain/Bhopal, September 17, 2026: Madhya Pradesh witnessed the simultaneous lighting of 3.55 crore ‘Ashirwad Diyas’ on Thursday to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and launch the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. The main event was held in Ujjain, where 33.27 lakh diyas were lit simultaneously at the Shipra River ghats and Mahakal Lok corridor. Officials said the Ujjain event set a world record.

25,000 people join Ujjain celebration

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal and state in-charge Mahendra Singh participated in the ceremony at Ramghat. More than 25,000 volunteers, devotees and residents took part at Ramghat, Datt Akhada, Kedareshwar, Sunhari and Bhookhi Mata ghats, besides Mahakal Lok. The mass lighting began at around 7 pm after a siren, with the lamps lit within about three minutes, according to officials.

Diyas lit at 845 locations

According to the state BJP, the ‘Ashirwad Diya’ programme was organised simultaneously at 845 iconic locations across Madhya Pradesh. Speaking at the event, CM Mohan Yadav said the lamp-lighting programme represented affection, respect and gratitude for Modi and was intended to promote the spirit of public participation and service.

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan launched

The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan was launched earlier in Indore by Nitin Nabin and Mohan Yadav. The campaign is aimed at activities related to public welfare and social participation, according to the organisers. The Ujjain participants also took part in the Shipra Aarti and offered prayers for the well-being and prosperity of the people of Madhya Pradesh.
