Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita are visiting Iran today to attend the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Their presence at the ceremony reflects India’s high-level representation at an important international occasion, underlining the respect extended to a prominent global religious and political figure. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit also highlights the deep-rooted civilisational and cultural ties between India and Iran, which go beyond formal diplomatic relations.
The Ministry further noted that the long-standing people-to-people connections between the two nations continue to provide a strong and enduring foundation for cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres. Such engagements, it said, help strengthen mutual understanding and reinforce the historical bonds shared by the two countries.
The participation of senior Indian dignitaries is seen as a gesture that reflects both diplomatic sensitivity and the importance India places on maintaining constructive and respectful international relationships.
