Chandigarh Traffic Alert: Routes to Be Controlled on September 4
Chandigarh, September 4, 2026: Traffic movement on several major roads in Chandigarh will be controlled or partially diverted on September 4 due to the Vice President’s visit and Janmashtami celebrations.
According to the traffic advisory, motorists may face restrictions during two key time windows — 10:30 am to 11:30 am and 2:45 pm to 3:30 pm. Commuters have been advised to avoid affected routes during these periods and use alternate roads wherever possible.
Routes Affected From Dakshin Marg to PGI Chowk
Traffic will be regulated on Dakshin Marg from the Airport Light Point to New Labour Chowk (Sector 20/21-33/34).
From New Labour Chowk to Sector 7/8-18/19 Chowk, traffic movement on Sarovar Path will also be affected.
Further, vehicles travelling from Sector 7/8-18/19 Chowk towards Sector 11/12-14/15 Chowk (PGI Chowk) will face regulation on Madhya Marg.
Traffic arrangements will also be changed on Vidya Path, covering the stretch from PGI Chowk via Sector 24/25 Light Point towards UIET College in Sector 25.
Janmashtami Restrictions Near Sector 36 and Sector 20
Separate traffic arrangements will remain in force from 12 noon on September 4 to 1 am on September 5 due to Janmashtami celebrations.
Near the ISKCON Temple in Sector 36, traffic will be controlled on Dakshin Marg between Kissan Bhawan Chowk (Sector 22/23-35/36) and Batra Chowk (Sector 23/24-36/37).
Traffic will also be regulated between Sector 20/21 Light Point and Sector 20/30 Light Point near the temples in Sector 20.
No-Parking Violations May Lead to Challans
The Traffic Police has asked guests, invitees and government employees attending events to use designated parking areas. Parking on roadsides or in restricted areas should be avoided.
Vehicles found parked or moving on cycle tracks, pedestrian paths or no-parking zones may face police action. Violating vehicles can be challaned and may also be towed when required.
Commuters Advised to Check Traffic Updates
With the Vice President’s visit and Janmashtami celebrations taking place on the same day, traffic movement could be affected across different parts of the city.
Motorists travelling through Dakshin Marg, Sarovar Path, Madhya Marg and Vidya Path are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time and check official Chandigarh Traffic Police updates before leaving.
