CTU Buses to Get UPI QR Code Ticketing Facility
Chandigarh is preparing to take another major step towards modernising its public transport system. Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) is planning to introduce UPI-based QR Code Bus Ticketing across its bus network.
Under the proposed system, passengers will be able to scan a QR code installed inside the bus and pay the fare through any UPI app. Once the payment is completed, the digital ticket will be issued instantly.
The administration is preparing to roll out the facility across all 438 CTU buses operating in the Tricity. Trials are currently being conducted on selected routes. After successful testing and completion of technical formalities, the system is expected to be expanded across the network.
The QR-based ticketing system is also planned for CTU electric buses after the trial phase. The initiative will help reduce dependence on cash, eliminate the problem of arranging change and make ticket issuance faster.
Passengers travelling on important routes connecting Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, including Sector 17 ISBT, Sector 43 ISBT, PGI, Punjab University, Railway Station, Airport, Zirakpur, Kharar, Mansa Devi, Chandi Mandir, Maloya, Dhanas and Manimajra, are expected to benefit from the digital system.
Importantly, cash payments and smart cards will continue to remain available even after UPI ticketing is introduced.
