Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated SJVN's 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project at Pachpadra in Rajasthan. This is a significant milestone in India's renewable energy journey and reiterates the nation's commitment toward achieving clean energy and sustainable development goals.
This historic occasion was graced by the dignified presence of Hon'ble Governor of Rajasthan Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Diya Kumari, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa, along with other distinguished guests and dignitaries.
During the event, Shri Bhupendra Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN, Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), Shri Parthajit De, Director (Finance), Shri Rajesh Kumar Chandel, Director (Projects), Shri Pankaj Porwal, Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri Prashant Sharma, CEO, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), and senior officers of SJVN and SGEL were virtually present.
SJVN has developed the 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, through its renewable energy subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL). Spread over approximately 5,000 acres of land, the project has been developed with an investment of around ₹5,492 crore. It is India's largest single-site EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category, presenting an excellent example of world-class renewable energy infrastructure built on indigenous capabilities.
The project is expected to generate around 2,454.84 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and approximately 56,482.14 million units of clean energy during its 25-year operational life. The power generated will be supplied to the states of Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW), and Jammu and Kashmir (300 MW), which will strengthen the country's clean energy grid alongside ensuring a long-term and sustainable power supply.
It is estimated that this project will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 2.79 billion kilograms during its operational period, contributing significantly to the fulfillment of India's climate action commitments and environmental sustainability objectives.
This project significantly promotes the Government of India's 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives. Around 24.22 lakh indigenously manufactured DCR solar modules and approximately 175 crore indigenous solar cells have been used in the project, boosting domestic manufacturing and reinforcing the indigenous renewable energy ecosystem.
In addition to clean energy generation, the project has contributed significantly to regional socio-economic development. Over 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities were created during its construction and commissioning phases, and the project continues to provide livelihood opportunities during its operational phase as well. It has also stimulated the development of critical infrastructure, including roads, transmission systems, and other allied facilities, accelerating the holistic growth of the Bikaner region.
SJVN, a Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, currently has an installed capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates two transmission lines with a total length of 123 kilometers. The successful commissioning and inauguration of the 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project further strengthens SJVN's commitment to expanding India's renewable energy capacity and realizing the national portfolio for a sustainable and energy-secure future.
