The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Uttar Pradesh, prompting the Prayagraj administration to issue a flood alert as water levels in several rivers continue to rise towards the danger mark.
Prayagraj District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said the district administration has completed all flood preparedness measures to tackle any emergency.
"Water levels in several rivers are nearing the danger mark, although the major flood-threat rivers are still below the critical level. All flood-prone villages have been identified, and necessary arrangements have been made," Verma said.
The administration has ensured sanitation, safe drinking water, spraying operations, and has deployed SDRF and NDRF teams in vulnerable areas.
According to the IMD's latest weather bulletin, a well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Uttar Pradesh is expected to trigger widespread rainfall across the state. The department has also warned of extremely heavy rainfall in parts of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The weather office has forecast widespread rainfall over West Uttar Pradesh on July 10–11 and East Uttar Pradesh from July 10–13, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in both regions. Moderate to intense lightning activity has also been predicted over East Uttar Pradesh.
The IMD said the weather system is being driven by a low-pressure area over northern central Uttar Pradesh, along with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. Although the system is expected to weaken gradually, the active monsoon trough will continue to support rainfall across the state.
The weather department has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel to low-lying and flood-prone areas during periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.
