New Delhi: Delhi and several parts of Haryana witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday morning, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert warning for moderate to heavy rain in the region.
The intense rainfall resulted in waterlogging across several areas of the national capital, severely affecting traffic movement. Commuters faced difficulties as roads and low-lying areas were flooded.
According to the IMD, significant rainfall was recorded at various weather stations in Delhi during the last 24 hours. Safdarjung received 73 mm of rain, Lodhi Road recorded 80 mm, Palam received 63 mm, and Ayanagar recorded 57 mm.
The Delhi government said that teams from the Delhi Jal Board, Public Works Department (PWD), and Municipal Corporation have been deployed on the ground to address the waterlogging situation.
Officials stated that the administration is working on a war footing and all necessary measures are being taken to manage the impact of heavy rainfall.
The Delhi Chief Minister’s Office said that all concerned departments have been placed on alert following the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Authorities have instructed agencies to take immediate action in affected areas.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious and follow weather updates issued by the IMD.
