India lift record eighth Asia Cup title
India produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final in Dubai, securing a record-extending eighth title.
The victory also helped India make amends for their 2024 final defeat to Sri Lanka.
Shafali and Mandhana give India a flying start
After choosing to bat first, India got off to a spectacular start through Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana.
Shafali smashed 68 off 39 balls, while Mandhana scored 59 off 39. The pair added 129 runs for the opening wicket, giving India a strong platform.
Shafali also reached her half-century in just 24 balls, setting the fastest fifty in Women’s Asia Cup history.
India eventually finished on 183/5, with G Kamalini adding a quick unbeaten 15 off five balls late in the innings.
Charani and Deepti destroy Sri Lanka’s chase
Sri Lanka struggled from the beginning of their chase. After an early wicket, captain Chamari Athapaththu tried to steady the innings but India’s spinners kept the pressure on.
Athapaththu scored 36, but Deepti Sharma struck twice in the 10th over to leave Sri Lanka in serious trouble.
Sree Charani then took control, claiming 4/20 in four overs. Deepti finished with 3/19, as Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 111 in 19.4 overs.
India therefore completed a convincing 72-run victory and reclaimed the Women’s Asia Cup.
