India’s First Imaging Satellite Successfully Launched
Sriharikota: India’s first imaging satellite in geosynchronous orbit was successfully launched aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in the early hours today.
The launch followed a smooth 27-hour countdown. The GSLV-F17 lifted off from the second launch pad at 2:55 AM, carrying the 2,367-kg EOS-05 Earth observation satellite.
According to ISRO, the spacecraft was successfully placed in a sub-geosynchronous orbit around 18 minutes after liftoff.
EOS-05 to Strengthen Earth Observation
The advanced imaging satellite is designed to provide real-time imagery, supporting applications such as agriculture, disaster management and other areas requiring timely Earth observation data.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan said the mission would further strengthen India’s Earth observation capabilities and improve the delivery of Earth observation services.
