Janaushadhi expands healthcare products beyond medicines
The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is expanding its product range to cover healthcare needs beyond medicines, including baby care, postpartum support, medical devices and elderly care products. With more than 20,000 Janaushadhi Kendras across the country, the initiative aims to make essential healthcare products available at affordable prices and closer to consumers.
Baby care products under Janaushadhi Bachpan
For families with newborns, the Janaushadhi Bachpan range includes baby diapers and wipes along with other products such as feeding bottles, manual breast pumps, hot water bags and infant feeding tubes. A pack of 20 baby wipes is priced at ₹45, according to the information provided.
Products for maternal and home healthcare
The Janaushadhi network also offers products aimed at supporting mothers during pregnancy and after childbirth. These include abdominal belts, while cervical pillows are available for ₹525. For children and other patients who may require respiratory support at home, electrical nebulizer machines are available for ₹937.50, while child nebulizer masks with tubing are priced at ₹200. The range also includes products for routine health monitoring. Glucometer test strips, with 25 strips priced at ₹500, are available for blood sugar monitoring. Pulse oximeters are also part of the medical-device range.
Focus on elderly and long-term care
Healthcare costs can also increase for elderly, dependent or bedridden family members who require regular caregiving and hygiene products. To address this requirement, the government has introduced Jan Aushadhi Swabhiman, a dedicated range of adult diapers intended to provide a more affordable option for long-term care.
More products in the pipeline
The Janaushadhi product basket is also expected to expand further. Products under consideration include knee braces, walkers with sit-assist-to-stand support, medical steam vaporizers, foot elevator pillows, pregnancy back-support belts and cervical collars. The expansion is aimed at making affordable products for mobility, rehabilitation, recovery and supportive care more widely accessible, extending the Janaushadhi initiative beyond medicines.
