PGI Chandigarh Celebrates Hindi Diwas with Hindi Book Exhibition
Chandigarh, September 17, 2026: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, observed Hindi Diwas on Thursday under the chairmanship of PGI Director Prof. Vivek Lal.
On the occasion, Prof. Vivek Lal inaugurated a Hindi book exhibition at the Dr Tulsi Das Library and issued a message to the institute’s employees.
In his message, Prof. Vivek Lal said language is an important carrier of a nation’s social and cultural heritage. He said Hindi serves as an important link among India’s diverse languages and has a significant role in strengthening communication between doctors, patients and their attendants.
He highlighted the institute’s efforts to provide health-related information to patients and attendants in Hindi and mixed language. These include booklets, pamphlets, questionnaires, consent forms and diet charts in Hindi. Health-related videos in Hindi and mixed language are also shown in the OPD.
Prof. Vivek Lal urged senior officers and employees to increase the use of Hindi in official work and contribute to the promotion of the official language while respecting all Indian languages.
Pankaj Rai, Deputy Director (Administration), greeted the staff and students on Hindi Diwas and appealed to them to contribute to the development and promotion of Hindi. He said various incentive schemes and Hindi competitions are being organised during the Hindi Fortnight.
On the occasion, Prof. Sanjay Bhadada, Nodal Officer (Official Language), administered the Official Language Pledge to officers and employees, encouraging greater use, promotion and propagation of Hindi at the institute.
