Punjab Bandh Gets Strong Response in Mohali
The Punjab Bandh, called by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha on Friday, received a strong response in Mohali and surrounding areas. Traffic remained considerably lower than usual during the morning rush hours.
Several private schools shifted classes to online mode, while government schools also recorded low attendance. Private schools in Dera Bassi and Lalru remained closed as a precautionary measure. Private schools in Kharar were also closed.
Chandigarh University was also affected by the bandh.
Mohali SP City Dilpreet Singh said there were no restrictions from the administration and that schools and institutions had taken the decision voluntarily.
Protesters Block Key Roads
Protesters blocked the main road at the Cheema Boiler light point in Mohali.
In Kharar, protesters parked tractor-trolleys at the Gopal Sweets light point, stopping vehicles from passing through the area.
Near the Desumajra flyover, the Chandigarh-Kharar highway was blocked using private vehicles and police barricades. Several commuters were stranded in the area around 9 am.
Farmers Hold Protest at Azizpur Toll Plaza
Various farmers' organisations staged a protest at the Azizpur toll plaza in support of the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha.
The protesters demanded the release of Bandi Singhs.
Mohali Police also placed barricades near YPS Chowk and the Mohali-Chandigarh border on Jail Road. Police officials said other entry and exit points remained open for commuters.
Heavy Police Deployment in Tricity
More than 1,000 police personnel were placed on alert in Mohali, while around 800 personnel were deployed in Chandigarh to prevent any law-and-order situation.

Shops Remain Closed in Zirakpur and Lalru
In Zirakpur, shops at Patiala Road Chowk remained closed during the morning hours. Traffic was also significantly thinner than on normal days.
Most shops and showrooms in Lalru also remained closed, while public transport services were largely off the roads.
App-Based Transport Services Hit
App-based cab and bike services were severely affected by the bandh. Only a few vehicles were seen operating in Chandigarh and Mohali.
Very few autorickshaws were also seen on the roads, adding to the inconvenience for commuters.
