Ramdev on Kangana Ranaut Row: ‘I Don’t Want to Comment on Such People’
Haridwar, August 23: Yoga guru Swami Ramdev on Sunday sought to play down his ongoing public exchange with BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, saying he does not want to escalate the matter or make further comments.
Ramdev said, “I don't want to escalate the matter, the country knows who is Swami Ramdev, what is my contribution, that is why I don't want to comment on such people.”
How the Ramdev-Kangana Row Began
The public exchange between Ramdev and Ranaut followed the BJP MP’s controversial remarks about Gen Z and young protesters.
Ranaut had described the generation as “Generation Gutter”, drawing criticism from several quarters. Ramdev subsequently criticised her remarks and questioned her views about the younger generation.
The exchange intensified after Ranaut responded to Ramdev on social media. She objected to comments she said were related to her personal life and character, accusing him of crossing a line by referring to her youth and private life.
Ramdev’s latest remarks suggest that he does not want to take the public dispute further.
Ramdev Speaks on Vande Mataram
Apart from the controversy, Ramdev also spoke about Vande Mataram and described Bharat Mata as a central part of his faith and devotion.
He said Bharat Mata is regarded as Durga and Lakshmi and represents faith, knowledge, worship, duty and the ultimate purpose for him and those who share his view.
Ramdev also said that people who interpret references to goddesses, deities, monasteries or temples in Vande Mataramdifferently should develop a deeper understanding of Sanskrit and Indian culture.
‘Reforms Needed in Education, Healthcare and Agriculture’
Ramdev also called for continued reforms in the country, particularly in education, healthcare, the economy, agriculture and different aspects of democracy.
He said the government is working in these areas and that further work would continue in the future.
He also criticised the view that nothing positive is happening in the country, referring to the involvement of very young children in protests and demonstrations.
