New Skoda Superb Diesel for India: Everything You Need to Know
New Delhi: Skoda has unveiled the fourth-generation Superb TDI for the Indian market, marking the return of a diesel-powered Superb after the Czech carmaker discontinued diesel engines in its India range in 2020. The new Superb will be sold as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will be offered in a front-wheel-drive configuration.
The India-spec model was showcased alongside the Slavia facelift. Unlike the Superb Diesel 4x4 displayed at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, the version planned for India will use a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.
Skoda Superb Diesel India Launch by June 2027
Skoda is expected to launch the new Superb Diesel in India by June 2027. The company has not announced the final price yet.
The delayed launch and pricing are linked to the expected India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which could influence import duties and allow Skoda to price the CBU more competitively.
The expected price is around ₹60 lakh, although the final figure will be announced closer to the launch.
For comparison, the Toyota Camry is currently priced between ₹48.69 lakh and ₹48.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Unlike the Superb, the Camry is locally assembled in India through the CKD route.
One Fully Loaded Laurin & Klement Variant
The fourth-generation Skoda Superb will reportedly be brought to India in a single, top-spec Laurin & Klement (L&K)trim.
The car gets a premium design with a large butterfly grille, Matrix LED headlights, C-shaped LED tail lamps and 18-inch alloy wheels. The India-showcased car was finished in an Ice Tea colour.
Other colour options listed for the Superb include Pebble Silver, Carmine Red, Cobalt Blue, Ebony Black, Graphite Grey, Energy Blue and Purity White.
Large Dimensions and 645-Litre Boot
The new Superb measures 4,912 mm in length, 1,849 mm in width and 1,481 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,841 mm.
One of its biggest practical highlights is the hatchback-style powered tailgate. The boot offers 645 litres of capacity, while the through-loading facility allows longer items to be carried through the rear centre armrest.
Premium Cabin With Focus on Rear Passengers
Inside, the Superb takes an executive-sedan approach, with a spacious cabin and premium materials.
The rear seats get Cognac leather upholstery, three adjustable headrests, a centre armrest, dedicated climate-zone controls, reading lights, rear sunblinds and a Sleep Package. The large glass area also contributes to the airy feel of the cabin.
Interestingly, the India-spec model does not get a sunroof.
At the front, the cabin features a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a digital driver’s cockpit, ambient lighting and a 14-speaker Canton audio system.
Other notable equipment includes 10 airbags, a 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS.
The front seats are more feature-rich, offering heating, ventilation and massage functions, along with power adjustment, three memory settings and extendable under-thigh support.
2.0-Litre TDI Diesel With 7-Speed DSG
The biggest talking point is under the bonnet.
The India-spec Superb will be powered by a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine producing 147 bhp and 360 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Unlike the 4x4 version showcased previously, the India-spec car will send power exclusively to the front wheels.
This will mark Skoda's return to diesel passenger cars in India after a gap of around six to seven years, depending on the eventual launch date.
What Could Have Been Better?
While the new Superb brings a long list of premium features, there are some notable omissions for rear-seat passengers.
The rear seats do not get powered recline, ventilation or massage functions. A dedicated rear entertainment system could also have made the car more appealing as an executive vehicle, particularly for buyers who prefer to be chauffeur-driven.
Skoda Superb vs Toyota Camry
The Superb will enter a relatively small premium sedan segment in India, where the Toyota Camry remains its key mainstream rival.
The Skoda's combination of a diesel engine, large dimensions, hatchback practicality and extensive technology could help it stand apart from the Camry. However, its expected ₹60-lakh price tag and CBU positioning could make pricing a crucial factor when it finally arrives.
