Vietnam Speedboat Mishap: Mortal Remains of 15 Indians to Arrive in Mumbai
The mortal remains of the 15 Indian nationals who lost their lives in the tragic speedboat accident off Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island are being repatriated to India on Monday, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam has confirmed.
According to the Embassy, the remains are being flown from Ho Chi Minh City to Mumbai on Vietnam Airlines flight VN979. The flight is scheduled to depart at 6:00 pm local time and arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 9:35 pm IST.
In an official statement posted on X, the Embassy said it has informed the respective state governments and requested them to coordinate with the bereaved families for the transportation of the mortal remains to their hometowns.
The Embassy in Hanoi and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of continued assistance during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, several survivors from Andhra Pradesh who escaped the tragedy returned to India on Sunday, landing at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
The accident occurred on July 11 when a speedboat carrying 36 people capsized while travelling from Hon May Rut Islet to An Thoi Port near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island. According to Vietnamese authorities, all passengers were thrown into the sea.
Among the deceased were 10 people from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. Authorities in both India and Vietnam continue to assist the affected families.
