Himachal Education Department revises vocational subjects
The Himachal Pradesh Education Department has taken several decisions to rationalise vocational education and subject arrangements in government schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by the Director of School Education, where the continuation, equivalence and rationalisation of vocational trainers across different trades were reviewed.
Banking trainers to continue
Under the revised arrangement, existing vocational trainers working in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) trade will continue for the time being.They will teach banking-related subjects in government CBSE schools. The State Project Directorate will approach the CBSE for formal approval and clarification regarding the arrangement.
Food processing trainers to teach nutrition
Vocational trainers currently working in the food processing trade have been allowed to teach subjects related to food, nutrition and dietetics in government CBSE schools.
The department has also decided that the plumbing trade will not be offered in these schools under the revised arrangement. Officials noted differences between the qualifications and job responsibilities prescribed for plumbing and geospatial technology trainers.As a result, the plumbing subject and the vocational trainers associated with it will be shifted and rationalised.
Telecom trainers allowed to teach electrical technology
Under the temporary arrangement, telecom vocational trainers have been permitted to teach electrical technology.However, vocational trainers engaged in the security trade will not continue under the existing arrangement. Instructions have been issued to begin the process of shifting and rationalising these trainers.
Informatics Practices and Computer Science both approved
In another important decision, the department has approved a proposal allowing schools to offer both Informatics Practices and Computer Science.The changes are aimed at aligning vocational trades, trainer qualifications and subject requirements with the academic structure followed by government CBSE schools across Himachal Pradesh.
