Netraheen Ekta Punjab Association members protest at Secretariat
Chandigarh, September 18, 2026: Members of the Netraheen Ekta Punjab Association on Friday reached the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh and staged a protest over issues concerning visually impaired persons. The association has been holding an indefinite dharna in Chandigarh and its members marched towards the Secretariat on Friday to raise their long-pending issues.
Backlog vacancies, pension and education among key issues
The protesters are seeking the filling of backlog vacancies reserved for persons with disabilities, an increase in pension and improvement in educational facilities for visually impaired persons. Around 100 to 150 visually impaired persons participated in the protest, while nearly 40 to 50 members took part in the march towards the Secretariat. Association President Nirmal Singh and General Secretary Sukhpal Singh Dhillon said the association would continue to raise these issues until a concrete solution is reached. The protest at the Punjab Civil Secretariat highlights the concerns of visually impaired persons regarding employment opportunities, financial support and education facilities.
