Punjab Assembly Elections 2027: BJP-SAD Alliance Buzz Grows After RP Singh Meets Sukhbir Badal
Chandigarh: Speculation over a possible political reunion between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has gained fresh momentum in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections after senior BJP leader RP Singh met SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal in New Delhi.
RP Singh, a member of the Punjab BJP core committee, met Sukhbir Badal to enquire about his health. The meeting assumes significance as political discussions over a possible BJP-SAD reunion have resurfaced in Punjab.
RP Singh-Sukhbir Badal Meeting Fuels Alliance Speculation
Speaking about the meeting, RP Singh said that the political situation in Punjab and the need to work towards the state's development were discussed.
He also expressed concern over the law and order situation in Punjab, describing it as serious.
RP Singh said the Punjab Assembly Elections 2027 would be about more than simply deciding which political party comes to power.
“The current situation in Punjab is precarious. The 2027 elections in the state are no longer about who will win or lose. They are about saving Punjab,” Singh said.
SAD Leaders Also Signal Possibility of Reunion
The latest meeting comes at a time when senior SAD leaders have indicated that the possibility of the two parties coming together again cannot be ruled out.
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia recently said that people in Punjab want the BJP and SAD to reunite, adding another layer to the growing political speculation.
However, neither BJP nor SAD has formally announced any alliance for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
BJP and SAD Were Long-Standing Allies
The BJP and SAD were long-standing allies in Punjab before their relationship ended in September 2020 amid differences over the farm laws.
The possibility of reviving the alliance was also discussed ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but the talks did not result in an agreement.
Since then, the possibility of the former allies joining hands again has periodically featured in Punjab's political discourse.
No Formal Alliance Yet
For now, there is no official confirmation of a BJP-SAD alliance for the 2027 Assembly polls.
However, RP Singh's meeting with Sukhbir Badal, along with recent statements from SAD leaders, has once again brought the possibility of a BJP-SAD reunion into focus.
With the Punjab Assembly Elections 2027 approaching, further meetings or statements from the leadership of both parties could provide greater clarity on whether the former allies are moving towards a fresh political understanding.
