Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon condemned alleged police torture of Mohanjeet Singh and demanded an impartial probe into the incident.

BJP Chief Kewal Singh Dhillon Backs Mohanjeet Singh

Chandigarh, September 4, 2026: Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon has condemned the alleged police torture of GurSikh youth Mohanjeet Singh from Sheron village in Sangrur district, who reportedly raised concerns over drug abuse with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Dhillon spoke to Mohanjeet Singh through a video call, enquired about his health and assured him of the BJP’s support. He said the party would provide all possible assistance in his fight for justice.

The BJP leader said he had also spoken to the SSP Sangrur and DGP Punjab, demanding an impartial investigation into the allegations of custodial torture.

Dhillon Questions Police Action

Dhillon said Mohanjeet Singh had not committed any illegal activity and had only raised concerns about drugs and the future of Punjab’s youth. He said citizens in a democracy have the right to question the government and express their views.

He alleged that Mohanjeet was taken into custody, beaten and tortured for raising the drug issue and that his Kakars were disrespected. Dhillon termed the allegations serious and condemned the reported treatment.

“Instead of using police force to silence those raising their voice against drugs, the government should listen to and support them,” Dhillon said.

BJP Questions ‘War Against Drugs’ Claims

Dhillon also questioned the Punjab Government’s claims regarding its “War Against Drugs” campaign, alleging that drug abuse continues to remain a major challenge in the state.

He accused the AAP government of attempting to suppress voices questioning its functioning, despite coming to power on the promise of representing the people.

BJP Promises Support

Dhillon said the BJP stood with Mohanjeet Singh and that Daman Thind Bajwa, Sangrur-2 District President, along with his team, was assisting the youth.

Targeting the AAP government ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, Dhillon alleged that people were “fed up” with the government’s alleged high-handedness and said voters would respond through the ballot box.
