‘Will Respond PC to PC’: Punjab Employee Unions Reject Govt Claims
Chandigarh, September 3, 2026: The standoff between the Punjab government and its employees intensified on Wednesday, with employee unions under the Sanjha Mulazam Manch rejecting claims made by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and other Cabinet ministers.
The unions also set conditions for any further dialogue with the government, signalling that talks will not resume without addressing their concerns.
Unions Reject Claims Made by Ministers
The employee unions were responding to a press conference addressed by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur.
Union leaders rejected the claims made by the ministers and said they would present their own version of events before the public.
They declared that they would counter the government's statements through their own press conferences.
‘We Will Answer Press Conference Through Press Conference’
Making their position clear, the union leaders said, “We will answer press conference through press conference.”
The statement underlined the growing differences between the employee organisations and the state government as both sides continue to present contrasting positions over the ongoing dispute.
The Sanjha Mulazam Manch has maintained that employee representatives will respond to the government's claims publicly and place their position before employees and the wider public.
Standoff Between Govt and Employees Continues
The latest development comes amid continued tension between Punjab government employees and the state administration.
With the unions now setting conditions for further talks and announcing a direct response to the government's claims, the possibility of fresh negotiations will depend on how both sides move forward.
The employee organisations are expected to elaborate on their position and the conditions for further dialogue through their upcoming press conferences.
